Food, sun….and a bit more food #littleloves

A bit late to the party this week, but it’s been a busy one. We’ve been out every evening, which has left me pretty exhausted – got back from work the last two days ready to have a nap! Six weeks til summer hols…

Anywho, what has been loved by moi this week?

Read

As well as finishing my ‘F’ book for #atozauthors, I’ve started a book called The Time In Between: A Memoir of Hunger and Hope by Nancy Tucker. Having watched (and continue to watch) someone I love dearlyΒ go through the devastating illness that is anorexia, reading the experiences of others who go through it helps me to better understand what she’s going through and how really difficult it is. Not that I love reading something pretty distressing, but this book is very well-written and an invaluable insight.

ALSO (adding this post-publishing, but had to put it in!), I read Secrets of the River by Jess McGlynn over at Catch a Single Thought. Downloaded it one evening, and read it straight through. It meant staying up far too late on a work night, but I felt it was worth it at the end which is always a good sign πŸ™‚ an easy read, not too predictable yet not stressfully mysterious. Just a good book, basically. I thoroughly enjoyed it and now want to go and visit the south of France, please πŸ™‚

How the Other Half Eat on 4od (or All4..?) when I was babysitting. Pretty lighthearted but interesting to see how different families approach food and mealtimes. Basically, two families swapped food shops and eating routines for a weekend, and we watched them deal with a different way of eating (which, in turn, affected their way of life).

Wore

NO COAT OR JUMPER TODAY. Outside in my t-shirt at work, had to take refuge in the shade as I couldn’t take the heat..lame, I know, but Hello Summer!

Heard

Back at work, so small children talking at me. Telling me their life stories and all the goings on of the playground. This is something I need to love more, so reminding myself of that fact here πŸ™‚

Made

It’s been all about the Hairy Dieters this week. We did a couple of their recipes, including this delicious Cajun Chicken with wedges and yoghurt dip. It was so so tasty, definitely one to do again.

I just made their ‘Skinny Beef Lasagne’ which substituted the pasta for blanched leeks and cheese sauce for a cornflour/milk mix. It tasted nice and all, but you can’t beat a proper lasagne…not sure I care enough about calories and all that malarky to cut the real deal out of my life.

And lastly…

We went for a reallllly good meal the other night with my Mr, Dad and sister at my favourite little Italian. I bucked my usual trend of a margherita pizza and went for a chicken pasta and pesto get up, and it was GOOD. Quite rich though, so it’ll be back to the usual next time πŸ™‚
